How do I become
a Dreamland Fan?
Hey hey. My name is Sebastian. I'm a film honours student in Sydney, Australia, with aspirations for world domination.Ok, not really.
But after years of cinematic apathy, John Waters proved to be the adrenaline shot which has not only thrown me headlong into camp, but also breathed life into my film-making. That, plus i love his suits.
Damn, those are some suits.
As an exersize in bad taste, my most recent work took some kind of cake. It was a video installation: twenty people stuffed into a white plastic tunnel (below), pulsing with lights and frequencies designed to make people physically ill.
The film itself was a carefully blended montage of everything from Multiple Maniacs, Shirley Temple and Jayne Mansfield to the A-Bomb and burn victims (including Cecil B Demented). Imagine vomiting in front of a group of diplomats, and you may come close to the reaction i got. Needless to say, a few people (including my professors) got a serious kick out of it; in fact, many parents complained that their children were ill afterwards! I grinned and silently thanked John for liberating cinema and making the world a far more lucid place.
